How to Solve the Obesity Problem

by Matt Helphrey

Obesity is a growing problem in America today, even withmore and more money being spent on diets and efforts tolose weight and get in shape. So how is that we want toget healthy yet still slide towards higher obesity rates?

Obesity is a world problem and not only a problem in theUnited States. Obesity in the world has hit astronomicalnumbers reaching over a billion today.

The blame for the high obesity rate can be put on severalshoulders. How about the fast food industry and it'smammoth sized portions of food they give. Or maybe weshould blame the fad fitness programs who promiseunrealistic results with little or no work. Maybe thisfault goes to the governments, corporations, or health careproviders who can't provide affordable health care to thosein need.

Or would it even be fair to blame anyone but the individualwho themselves ultimately do make the final choice on whatfoods they eat and how often they exercise?

In order to really see the problem, we need to view it on amore broad level.

It goes without saying that our society is much moretechnologically advanced now than we ever were. Long goneare the days where when we needed to eat meant we'd have tocatch and kill or grow our own foods. There are very fewminers and laborers in the fields and factories anymore. Now that we have machines and automation, it makes ourlives much more simple, relaxed, and lazy.

I know that the kids of today would rather play Medal ofHonor on Xbox then go out side to play like they used to. Video games, the internet, and digital high definitiontelevisions has children eating more and burning lesscalories throughout the day.

Our future generations will have even more severe obesityproblems if we don't do something about it now. If kidsnow are overweight, and then these kids have kids, it isonly common sense they the new generations will be evenmore overweight.

This problem has to be solved in a house to house levelwhere the parents or head of house has to make the toughdecisions for the kids and limit the amount of food andinside exposure. Encourage your kids to get out and playball, ride a bike, or just run a muck like children do. Ifwe can teach our kids the importance of health and wellbeing by eating a good diet now, then we can save our kidskids as well.
